In the field of play, it was a quiet week in athletics on The Master’s College campus, as only the men’s and women’s basketball teams took to the court. The women returned from Thanksgiving festivities to notch a pair of victories this week. The men played just one game on Saturday, when they took on La Sierra in Riverside.

Outside of the competition itself though, the school did make some noise.

The biggest news once again came on the cross country front, as three TMC runners gained National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics honors for their performances this year.

After both the men’s and women’s teams at TMC competed in the NAIA National Championships, the school garnered a trio of NAIA All-Americans.

From the women’s team, Holly Kopp earned the postseason honor to become the first women in the program’s history to earn the award. Kopp led the women’s team to its best finish ever at nationals, ending up in 10th place.

On the men’s side, John Gilbertson and Anthony Pizzo led the team to 10th place at nationals and each were named All Americans.

“I think that the spotlight is on Holly Kopp,” said head coach Zach Schroeder, “because she’s the first female All-American that the college has ever produced for cross country ... and those bench marks really are critical ingredients to be able to move the program forward.”
