The Master’s College signs Holly Kopp!!!
Kopp Completes the Puzzle Coach Schroeder is excited to announce his final sign for the coming season, Holly Kopp from Kenai, AK. The incoming freshman set P.R.s of 19:09 in the 5k for cross country and a 5:33 in the mile for track and field. "Good things are worth waiting for," Coach Schroeder said of Kopp. "Holly was the final piece we needed to complete what I am confident will be a very special women's team for the fall. I have said this multiple times as we've signed each and every one of the girls for the coming season, but I'll say it again, I have never been more excited about our women's program than I am now. Holly was the missing ingredient we were waiting for to round off our women's squad. She has all the passion, excitement, and dedication I could want in an athlete and she's just a lot of fun. Holly brings a maturity and experience in the sport that will be very beneficial for such a young team. I believe she will flourish under our training, and I'm excited to see what she will be able to accomplish athletically in the coming year." | ![]() |
Kopp is looking forward to getting to TMC
where she is thinking of majoring in Education. She hopes to help the
women's team to their first appearance at Nationals as well as to set
new P.R.s. Kopp said of her decision to come to TMC, 'The Master's
College is just an awesome place. I know that I will grow and learn so
much, through the strong biblical teaching and their passion to honor
Christ through everything... I"m also super excited and blessed to have
Coach Zach and Amie Schroeder as my coaches and to run with such an
amazing team!"
The Master’s College signs John Marshall's David Eller!
David Eller Completes Distance Project 2010 Class After many months of anticipation, Coach Schroeder can officially welcome David Eller to The Master’s Distance Project, completing his men’s team for the coming fall. The Master’s men will look to David as a potential scorer, and a major team player for the 2010 season. A senior at John Marshall High School in Los Angeles, CA, David chose TMC because of, “The strong biblical teaching along with the combination of the quality academic programs and the privilege of being able to run with the track and cross country teams.” Son of Rick and Marya Eller, David plans on majoring in Constitutional Law. With personal records of 4:29 in the 1600m, 9:46 in the 3200m, and 15:26 at the Bell Garden Cross Country Invitational, Eller’s collegiate athletic goals are to, “Be a consistent scorer in Cross Country and to PR regularly. Also to be a team member first and an individual second so as to best serve the team in whatever capacity I am able.” David’s team-mindedness will be an essential element of the TMC men’s campaign for a GSAC Conference Title in Cross Country, as well as a run at the NAIA National Championships this November. Eller currently attends Grace Community Church in Sun Valley, CA, along with many others from the TMC squad, including recent signs Josiah Downer and Paul Jesson. When asked what he is most looking forward to at Master’s, David responded, “The Christian fellowship at Master's and the opportunity to mature spiritually under the Biblical perspective taught there”, and “running with good friends Josiah Downer and Paul Jesson.” With the signing of David Eller, Coach Schroeder is ready to put twelve men on the line this fall, united and impassioned to commit their best efforts to the Lord. | ![]() |
The Master’s College signs Golden West's Ayla Draper!
Draper Joins Lady Mustangs As Coach Zach Schroeder looks ahead to next fall, his anticipation for what may be is mounting. It’s going to be an exciting year as the TMC women embark on something new as their head coach continues to add talented athletes to his up and coming squad. Yet another addition to the team will be Ayla Draper, joining the Lady Mustangs this fall. An experienced heptathlete from Visalia, CA, Ayla is looking to be a strong competitor as a freshman. Draper has posted marks of 19:39 in the three mile, 5'3'' in High Jump, 15.60 in the 100m High Hurdles, 47.9 in the 300m Low Hurdles, 15'10'' in the Long Jump, 32'8'' in the Triple Jump, and 2:33.2 in the 800m run. She will also compete in cross country alongside the rest of her teammates in the fall. With so much promise, Schroeder is looking forward to the newcomer. “Ayla is a passionate competitor, and will add to the escalating excitement of our new women’s team. She is a highly driven athlete, desiring to do the most work possible to be the best she can be. We are very blessed to have her joining us this fall.” |
The daughter of Carmel and Jeanne Marie Draper, and soon-to-be graduate of Golden West High School, Ayla plans to major in Music Composition at TMC. Ayla chose Master’s, “Because of the goal to get every student on fire for the Lord. I visited the campus, went to the chapel, met a few kids, and every aspect really spoke to my heart, and I could see and feel the evidence of Grace everywhere.” Her collegiate athletic goals are, “To make it to nationals all four years, score over 5000 in a hep at least once by the end of my senior year.” According to Coach Schroeder such goals are very attainable, “She has a great chance at making it to the NAIA Outdoor Track and Field National Championships as a freshman, something that’s never been done before by a female athlete at The Master’s College.” Ayla is looking forward to joining teammates that are “just as excited about their faith and their passions as I am.” Her teammates and coaches are equally excited to have her join them.
The Master’s College signs Micayla Frankian!
Coach Schroeder is excited to announce the signing of yet another local female athlete for next year’s team. Micayla Frankian of Saugus will be joining the Mustang women for summer training and officially this fall. Daughter of Mark and Nanette Frankian, Micayla hails from Advantage Preparatory Schools, and plans to major in Biology. Micayla’s athletic goals for college are extremely team oriented, “to continue to improve in running and do anything to help the team!” It is Micayla’s character and heart for her teammates that most impresses Coach Schroeder. “Micayla will give her very best for her teammates. Her devotion to Christ and willingness to serve others will be a tremendous asset as we seek to build a cohesive women’s program in the coming years. I am also excited to add another local athlete to the women’s side. It’s going to be great to have Micayla around to train with our other local girls over the summer and Christmas break.” When asked why she chose Master’s, Micayla responded, “It just seemed like the best fit overall, and I am really excited to run on the team! Plus, it’s close to home and is strong both academically and athletically. I’m looking forward to getting a Christian education at the college level, and going to school with several friends!” Schroeder and the Mustangs are eager for Frankian to become a part of a team that is quickly growing and building for the future. |
The Master’s College signs MLK's Katrina Graham!
Good Things Come to Those Who Wait We’ve all heard the addage, “Good things are worth waiting for.” Coach Zach Schroeder is experiencing the proof of this sentiment with his latest signing for his women’s running program- Katrina Graham. Schroeder had been waiting for this sign since last summer when Graham first visited The Master’s College. He believes the newcomer is yet another essential element to the formation of a new women’s team for next fall. The senior out of Martin Luther King Hisgh School in Riverside, CA posted a 5:35 in the 1600m this season as well as a 19:46 in the 5k. Coach Schroeder will be looking to Graham to be a scoring contributor, as well as a sparkplug of energy and enthusiasm for her teammates. Katrina comes to TMC relatively untapped, with all the passion needed to carry her to the next level. Katrina bubbles over with excitement and love for her sport. She loves the team, and believes in the vision we have for the women’s program. We can’t wait to add her to our numbers next fall. This will be the most cohesive team we’ve ever had; our ladies are all of the same heart and mind. I’m excited to see what they will accomplish together. |
Katrina's positive confidence is already exuberant. She knows what she wants to do- "I want to run with the best of my ability while focusing on God..." and she has no doubt about the results, "Getting PR's and helping my team reach Nationals is going to be amazing!"
Next fall promises to be a historic season for the lady Mustangs, as the women’s squad unites returning and incoming talent to set new milestones.
The Master’s College signs Sartell's Hannah Kellerman!
TMC Women Add Kellerman and Build for the Future Hannah Kellerman Joins the Lady Mustangs! Great recruiting has been a huge piece of the puzzle that has helped the Mustang Men’s cross country team to take huge strides over the last several years. The women’s team has been looking to follow the model set before them to build their own future—a future that is looking even brighter with the recent signing of Hannah Kellerman for the fall of 2010. Traveling all the way from Sartell, MN, Kellerman is sure to make an impact immediately. The seasoned runner has put up times of 19:06 in the 5k, 11:36 for the 3200m, 5:18 for the 1600m, and a 2:23 for the 800m. Coach Schroeder couldn’t be more excited about Hannah- both on and off the course. Schroeder believes that she embodies everything he is looking for to continue laying the foundation of the future TMC squad. “Hannah’s passion for Christ spills over into her passion for running; she is exactly the kind of girl that we want to move our program forward. Hannah is also a big step forward athletically.” |
“When she called to tell us she was going to sign, I told her, ‘I don’t know who’s more excited, me or you.’” Coach Schroeder said the same thing earlier this year when signing local runner Hayley Parkinson. “Our women’s team will be small, but solid. I’m incredibly excited about every girl we’re going to have on the team; I’ve never been more excited about our women’s program.”
Coach Schroeder continued, “We are building a new women’s team, that we hope will follow in the footsteps of our men’s program, chasing down similar goals and setting new milestones. We have been highly selective in the type of athlete we are adding to the women’s squad. We have been looking for a very specific type of girl to be the building blocks of something new, and in Hannah we’ve found everything we’ve been looking for, and so much more. Hannah, along with Parkinson, provide for an increasing level of competitiveness within the conference, and like Parkinson, Hannah is a team player with unbelievable work ethic.”
Kellerman has plenty of goals for herself and the program as well. "On the top of my collegiate goals is to one day be a part of the first women's cross country team that The Master's takes to the NAIA national meet...Of course, as I am sure many athletes strive towards, I would work to earn All-American honors by the end of my career. Overall I want to always put forth my best effort for the Lord and keep improving my times for the team."
With returner Erika Amaradio, fellow newcomer Parkinson and now Kellerman, the Mustangs will have a strong top three and a great foundation to build on for the future.
The Master’s College signs Royal's Paul Jesson!
Mustangs See Big Things to Come with Jesson TMC’s quick rise toward the top of the GSAC this season is due in large part to a crop of talented freshmen. Next season the Mustangs plan to benefit greatly from another stellar freshman, Paul Jesson, who has just signed to run for TMC starting Fall 2010. Jesson hails from running powerhouse, Royal High School in Simi Valley, ranked among the top division I high school teams in the nation. He has put up times of 14:41 over three miles and a 9;21 in the 3200. Coach Schroeder is counting on Jesson to be a scoring contributor as a freshman on the men’s cross country team next fall. “The success of the men’s team won’t rest on any one athlete, but on having our top five guys dialed in. Paul knows what it’s like to fill those shoes, and to be a team player. We’re going to need his consistency and team-focused mindset if we hope to chase down a Conference Title next year.” | ![]() |
By all accounts it appears that Jesson is just the guy to fit the bill. Despite his obvious talent, Jesson is a soft-spoken, extremely humble athlete. He possesses the wonderful pairing of qualities all coaches desire, talent and work ethic. Jesson’s character and heart for the Lord make him a perfect fit for the program. “After having Paul out for a visit earlier in the year, all our current athletes on the men’s team said this was a guy they would love to run with and have as a teammate. “ The Mustangs believe Paul Jesson is the piece of the puzzle the Mustang men need to accomplish what’s never been done before in school history- claim a conference title in cross country.
The Master’s College signs Sadleback's Matt Crichton!
Crichton to Run as a Mustang in 2010-2011 In the midst of what has been a record breaking season for TMC’s cross country and track team, Coach Zach Schroeder continues to build for the future. He knows that he is setting the stage not only for a tremendous finish for the 2010 season, but also setting the stage for a Mustang program that can compete at the highest levels for years to come. That building process takes place both through the mentoring of current athletes and the recruitment of future Mustangs. Adding to the potential of the near future for the Mustangs, Schroeder has signed Matt Crichton of Mission Viejo, CA for the 2010-2011 season. Crichton, who is ready to make a splash at
the college level, is one of those finds that coaches love to make- an
athlete who is raw and just waiting to be refined; talent waiting to be
built up, eager for strengthening, a proverbial diamond-in-the-rough. He
currently runs the 5k in 16:28 and is eager to improve on that time and
become a top runner over the course of his time at TMC. |
Coach Schroeder says, “We are incredibly excited to have Matt Crichton joining us next fall. Matt is relatively untapped and has a ton of potential; his passion for the sport is an essential ingredient promising great athletic success. We can't wait to get him out here and to have him start training with the team. Even more than his athletic ability, we are excited about the kind of person Matt is. He is an awesome addition to our program. The future development of our program will rest on the shoulders of guys like Matt, who are stepping into an era of the most competitive men's team in school history.”
Crichton said of his own decision, “I chose TMC because it is a very godly school that is strong both educationally and athletically…I’m looking forward to running in the awesome hills of Santa Clarita and being immersed in a God-centered environment.”
The Master’s College signs Canyon's Tyler Tockstein!
The
TMC Cross Country and Track team benefits once again from the talent
at local Canyon Country High School. After signing super freshman Anthony
Pizzo last year, TMC has now added not only Haley Parkinson to the women’s
team, but now Tyler Tockstein to their roster for 2010-2011. Tockstein,
a native of Santa Clarita, has run PR’s of 15:59 at Mt. Sac and 16:17
at Woodward Park, and has had appearances both at the CIF Finals and
the State meet. Coach
Zach Schroeder thinks that Tockstein’s success at Canyon shows great
promise for his future on the Mustang squad. "Tyler is another big
sign for us as we continue to tap into the great local talent at the
high school level. Tyler was a consistent scorer for Canyon, and we're
going to look for that consistency to be an essential ingredient of
next year's team. The men are looking to post the fastest team times
in school history, and we're hoping Tyler will be a contributor to help
make that happen. I can't wait to have Tyler on the team." |
The newest addition to the
men’s running program is excited for what lays ahead of him in college
at The Master’s. When asked about his own goals for the future, Tockstein
responded, “To help the team make nationals and become an NAIA All American
runner...I’m looking forward to running for Coach Schroeder, to bonding
with the team, and to pushing myself to become the best athlete possible.”
The Master’s College signs AVC's Josiah Downer!
Every good recruiting coach will use every means he can to find top talent. For Coach Schroeder, it has meant looking for local talent, and now looking back to his past. Schroeder, who grew up in the Antelope Valley, competed in Cross Country and Track for Antelope Valley College from fall 2000 to spring 2002. While there, Schroeder ran for Coach Mark Covert and was named a National Pepsi Scholar Athlete in 2001. Now Schroeder has gone back to Covert and AVC, this time to find runners for his own program. The return to his old stomping grounds has paid off as Schroeder is excited to announce the signing of AVC runner Josiah Downer. Downer, a sophomore at AVC, has signed a Letter of Intent to compete in Cross Country and Track at The Master’s College in the fall of 2010. Downer has PR’s of 22:08 in the 4 mile for cross country, and a 35:50-10k, 16:14-5k, and 4:20 -1500m in track. | ![]() |
Downer, who plans to major in Math or Kinesiology, has high hopes for his time at The Master’s as well. He chose TMC over other running programs “because of the interaction I’ve had with their distance runners and how they chose to run for God’s glory, not for personal gain. Also the coaching style at TMC parallels what I already have experienced.” In addition, he hopes he can use his time as a Mustang “to help TMC win the XC Nationals and become one of the elite collegiate distance runners.”
Coach Schroeder is excited about his latest find saying, “I’m always excited to invest scholarship monies in local athletes. The most important aspect of building a team is finding athletes that buy into the system, which is why I am so excited to have Josiah joining us. Josiah is a guy that will trust the training, and as a result perform very well. Because I am so familiar with the training he’s received the past two years, I’m confident he will transition well into our program.”
The Master’s College signs Canyon High School’s Hayley Parkinson!
Hayley Parkinson, Canyon High School’s number one female distance runner, recently signed a Letter of Intent to compete at The Master’s College. The signing of Parkinson marks the beginning of a new era for the women’s side of The Master’s Distance Project. Parkinson is the first local female athlete to join the Cross Country and Track program at TMC. Legendary Canyon High School
Coach Dave DeLong gave Parkinson his highest recommendations.
Speaking of Parkinson, DeLong said, “She’s worth every penny you have
to give her.” Coach Schroeder agrees; Hayley is everything he’s
looking for in an athlete. She has an incredible work ethic, matched
with all the excitement and passion for the sport necessary to be a
champion. Her elite mentality and desire to do all the little things
to be the best she can be make her a tremendous asset in the future
development of the women’s team at Master's. | ![]() |
Athletes like Hayley are few and far between. The Master’s Distance Project is blessed to have Parkinson joining them fall 2010, as the women look to set new milestones. With the addition of Parkinson, Coach Schroeder hopes to continue adding local athletes to his women’s squad. The Master’s Distance Project is absolutely thrilled to see Hayley join them in the fall. Hayley Parkinson promises to be a key contributor and leader for the lady mustangs in the year’s to come. Coach Schroeder has had his eye on Hayley for the past two years and is very happy to finally have her signed. Watch for Hayley to have an outstanding senior season of high school track this spring.
